+ - IS NON-STICK A HARMFUL SUBSTANCE?
No. It is an inert substance. That is, it has no chemical reaction in contact with food and water. It is regularly used for food use with the approval of the World Research Institutes. It also has applications in the medical field.
+ - HOW COME NON-STICK WAS MENTIONED AS A HARMFUL SUBSTANCE?
Because people confuse non-stick with the chemicals it is made of. Specifically, non-stick is composed of an ingredient called polytetra-fluoroethylene (PTFE), which in turn includes PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) in very small parts. The latter is the offending substance. However, PFOA is totally eliminated in the processing stage for obtaining PTFE itself, by baking the material at a very high temperature for a long time. Therefore PFOA is not present in the final product.
Since 2015, all ACCADEMIA MUGNANO non-stick cookware has been PFOA free in its raw materials.
+ - IS ACCADEMIA MUGNANO NON-STICK SAFE?
The non-stick used for all ACCADEMIA MUGNANO frying pans is a selected product that meets all food safety parameters.
+ - RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE
In order to achieve optimum performance and a longer service life from a non-stick frying pan, we would like to point out a few simple measures to follow:
- When first used, wash the non-stick frying pan carefully in hot soapy water, then after drying it, lightly grease the inner surface with oil or butter;
- Before using a non-stick frying pan, always check the label for the type of hob with which it can be used (gas, glass ceramic, induction, oven);
- Use a heat source with a diameter smaller than that of the non-stick frying pan;
- Never put the empty non-stick frying pan on the stove, long overheating at high temperatures can ruin the interior;
- Use wooden or plastic utensils to turn the food. This avoids scratching the bottom of the non-stick pan;
- Always cook at a moderate temperature, avoiding cutting the food being cooked directly into the non-stick pan;
- When using the non-stick frying pan on glass-ceramic hotplates, avoid sliding it across the hotplates
- When washing the non-stick frying pan by hand, use non-abrasive sponges (e.g. metal sponges and/or rough sponges) and no aggressive chemicals;
- When washing non-stick frying pans in the dishwasher, prefer cycles at moderate temperatures (30°/50°) with the recommended minimum detergent dosage and no polish;
- For the non-stick frying pan suitable for use on induction hobs, do not keep it empty on the griddle for more than 1 minute;
- Stow the non-stick frying pan carefully, avoiding scratching the non-stick coating for longer life;
+ - USABLE IN THE OVEN
Unless expressly indicated, such as baking trays, items fitted with handles cannot be used in the oven.
The handles and grips used by Accademia Mugnano resist high temperatures but are not suitable for use in the oven. Therefore, in order to prevent these from being damaged and rendering the cooking utensil unusable, avoid using them in the oven.
+ - WHAT DOES MODERATE TEMPERATURE MEAN?
A moderate temperature is between 170° and 190°.
It goes without saying that if we are talking about an oven tray, this can be used without any problem even at temperatures of 200°, but if we are talking about a frying pan, certainly in order to safeguard its functionality, we recommend not high temperatures that could aesthetically ruin the exterior (in the case of shiny paint).
In any case, never overheat the 'empty' pan.
